Today we finally did it - I mean we tried to :) we drove eastwards to the volcano "Hekla". Actually we wanted to climb it, but it wasn't even possible to drive close to the volcano cause we didn't have a monster off-road vehicle - which would be absolutely necessary to get near it. So we decided to explore the landscape around the volcano. We parked our car at a cross-way and started walking several miles over a lava-ash-desert-like looking bedrock until we arrived at the base of a huge green mountain. Since we've not been tired at all we started to ascend the mountain :)
The view from above was worth all the sweat ;)
About 4 hours later we arrived back at our car - having a white car in Iceland is really recommendable!
We decided to stay another night in Arnes; the camping ground there was really nice.
Because our denatured alcohol was already empty and we had to cook dinner tonight, we made a stop at the only and tiny litte kind of kiosk in Arnes but they just hat "Lampaolia" (oil for lamps) - we had no choice, so we bought it. In case of need it is really ok to heat up your meal with lampaolia, but you have to invest a lot of time later to clean your pans from all the grime - oh and it is not recommendable at all to try to hold marshmallows or apple-slices into the flame, it just doesn't taste good :D
