Reykjavik & a natural hot river

Day 6
This morning when we were about to have our every-morning-9:30-Knoppers we saw the disaster: In our “food-suitcase” a glass of pasta was broken and we had pasta sauce everywhere! This smell in the early morning was not the best thing + that meant that we had to clean up the whole suitcase before we could continue our trip.
We wanted to spend the day in Reykjavik, strolling through the city and enjoy a little bit of civilization J Not too long after everything was cleaned up and back in the car we arrived in Reykjavik. We walked up and down the main street, had a pretty nice lunch in a modern restaurant and enjoyed watching all those well dressed people around, also we went in several little but beautiful shops.
After that we decided to search the Filadelfia Church of which we knew that they also have Royal Rangers. Unfortunately we came just in time for the end of the international service (which was in English), but we joined the service in Icelandic an hour later. I loved the worship! It sounded like the music you hear in “the Lord of the rings” and was just beautiful! Also someone translated the sermon for us, so we even understood that!
Cause they couldn’t believe that we haven’t been to a natural hot spot, three young Icelandic men from that church decided to take us to one. It wasn’t just a hot spot, it was a hot river - which we would have never found if they wouldn’t have shown us!
We arranged to meet them at a gas station (they told us they hurried, because they had heard of the “German punctuality” J) and when we met there, someone gave us a walkie-talkie in the car. They had a helicopter pilot in their car who was telling us lots of Details about the landscape around us! What a good opportunity!
The street to that river was really really bad! Meanwhile we all were afraid to give back our rented car!! When we arrived we parked our cars in the middle of nowhere and had to walk another 30 minutes through darkness and moss over the rocks. Finally we saw the river! The outside temperature was about 39°F, the river had about 104°F (at least where I was sitting most of the evening). You could “choose” your temperature, cause it were actually two rivers (one very hot and one cold) flowing together and the higher you were sitting, the warmer the water was.
While we were sitting there one of the boys felt that it would be great to pray for Germany, so we all stood up and started praying for the respectively other nation, it was a great time!
On our way back to the car we met a flock of sleeping sheep and we realized that we had no idea where our cars where. Though after a few minutes we found our car that was bright & white (mercifully) but at that time it was already 3AM. Since we all were too lazy to build up a tent that night we thought it would be a good idea to spend the night in the car. Of course it was no good idea and I already regretted it a few minutes later! But every night has an end eventually J
